Heights Kitchen

This Heights family home was broken up into a series of small rooms that didn’t connect well with each other. The kitchen and family room were at least visually linked by a pass-through, but the dining room was down a hallway and the formal living room beyond was isolated and hardly ever used. In addition, the kitchen lacked natural light and was cramped. This didn’t stop everyone from gathering there anyway. The family loved to entertain but were getting tired of trying to cook and talk and visit while tripping over one-another in the gloom. The challenge was to re-purpose the existing space so that even large groups could gather comfortably and conversation could flow. Brand new top-of-the-line appliances were also a nice touch!

Greymark opened up the space. The dining room was moved to where the un-used formal living room had been. What had been the dining room was incorporated into the new, larger kitchen. And the wall separating the kitchen from the family room was removed entirely. Because the two rooms were on slightly different levels, Greymark installed two broad steps to keep the rooms easily connected. The new kitchen/family/dining space is open from end to end and now, when everyone gathers in the kitchen, there’s room to enjoy the aromas, the conversation and the company. The new dining room can be open to the kitchen or closed off through a set of reclaimed-wood barn doors.

3D Modeling
Through 3D modeling, completed before construction was ever started, the family was able to visualize their new home and make changes before the first hammer was swung.
